Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?
We’ll be working together remotely (by phone or video). So, as long as you’re in California, we can meet anywhere that’s comfortable and convenient for you!
Is teletherapy as good as in-person therapy?
Yes! Virtual sessions have been shown to be just as effective as in-person sessions.
What are your hours?

My hours are very flexible! One of the benefits of teletherapy is that I can adapt to your schedule since we don’t have to worry about office hours.

Most of our appointments will be during the week, anywhere between 8 AM and 8 PM. But I’m always happy to accommodate your needs if you would like to meet outside that window.

How long are sessions?

Most commonly, sessions will be 45-50 minutes long.

As you transition out of therapy, I offer 30-minute “maintenance” sessions to keep the results going!

What do we discuss during the free phone consultation?

The main idea here is to get a “vibe check” to see if we are a good fit for each other.

I’ll ask a few questions about your reason for seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve from our work. I’ll also share more about my treatment approach. Finally, we can discuss logistics, and I can answer any questions you may have.

Do you take insurance?

I don’t directly take your insurance. I am considered an “out-of-network provider.”

Some reasons I don’t bill insurance include protecting your privacy, not having to label you with a diagnosis, and remaining free to design your therapy so that it’s unique and effective for YOU.

If you want to seek reimbursement from your insurance company for out-of-network services, I can provide you with a “Superbill” for that.

Please contact your insurance company to see what their options are for reimbursement. Here are some helpful questions you can ask when you call:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible? Has it been met?
  • How many sessions per year does my plan cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per session? How much can I expect to be reimbursed?
  • How long does it take to receive reimbursement once I’ve submitted my claim?
  • Is a referral required by my primary physician?
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Our work together will be very effective and well worth every ounce you pour into it, so I rarely offer a sliding scale. However, I have a few sliding-scale openings for unique circumstances based on need.
What is it like to work with you?

It’s a huge sigh of relief! You will feel heard, validated, and supported because you’ll have a dedicated person deeply invested in your growth and transformation.

I prioritize empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental attitude and tailor each session to meet your individual needs.

I also frequently use metaphors, visuals, and humor to support our work since it is my main priority to have you leave every session feeling a little bit lighter!

What are some benefits of working with you?

You will appreciate my comprehensive approach. I consider many factors that impact your mental health, including lifestyle habits, relationships, and spiritual beliefs. I consider all that to tailor your treatment to prioritize what’s most important to you.

You’ll also start noticing better self-awareness as you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and new ways to manage them.

Your coping skills will greatly improve so that you can navigate life’s stressors more smoothly.

Overall, you will feel more resilient with a different outlook on your life. This will tremendously change the quality of your relationships (with yourself and others) and your sense of meaning and purpose in life!

Will I have homework?

Maybe we should call it something else since we may have a negative relationship with “homework” from our younger years at school!

But yes, you will have weekly reflection assignments or tasks to complete so we can keep the momentum of our work going and help you form new pathways in your brain as you learn new skills.

I want you to experience the benefits of our hard work daily (rather than just waiting for our one session a week). I’m invested in getting you where you want to be as soon as possible!

How long does therapy last overall?

It’s a great question to which you’ll get my famous “it depends!” answer.

We will base that on your overall goals for therapy and the pace at which you engage with our work. There’s a relatively wide range of treatment duration, from 3-6 months to several years.

We will regularly check in about how you’re feeling about our work and your progress so we can continue to meet your needs.

What if I feel hesitant or scared to begin?

That’s completely normal! It can be rather vulnerable to tell a stranger your deepest worries and fears.

That’s why I highly value building a strong and trusting relationship with you. It’s important that we do this before anything else, as it’s the foundation of our incredible journey ahead.

Do we actually do meditation or yoga stretches in our sessions?

Maybe not every time, but yes! We will incorporate many mindfulness strategies to help you reconnect to your mind, body, and spirit.

Of course, I will always ensure I have your consent and tailor my approach to your needs and preferences.

Have you been through therapy yourself?

Absolutely! I’ve done body-based, meditation-based, and talk therapy. I plan on seeking therapy throughout my life.

I have experienced many different forms of therapy, and I incorporate what I have found to be most effective and what is backed by research and ancient wisdom.

Can I do our therapy calls from my bed or couch?
Of course! I want you to be as comfortable as you can be… in whatever environment or position you see fit!
Can my pet join our sessions?

I would love that! Having your furry friend next to you can immediately reduce stress and anxiety, improve your mood, and help you feel a general sense of calm and stability.

I have always admired and appreciated pets, as they were a huge part of my life growing up. Plus, I get to admire them from afar. What a plus!
